The building on Golubac Square
The Mower
The representative buildings of Golupac still bear witness to the past. The building on Golubački trg, popularly called “Kosač” (The Mower), is the house of grain merchant Aleksa Popović from 1890/1. years. It was built in a row, on the street regulation and designed according to the strict principles of academicism, with rich architectural and decorative plastic on the street facade. The street facade has a rustically finished high plinth, while the area with seven windows is divided by pilasters with Corinthian-like capitals.
"The Mower" symbol of agriculture
The windows are surmounted by tympanums, and below each is a field with a garland in relief. Three symmetrically arranged attics are placed above the richly profiled roof cornice. A reclining figure of a lion is placed on the tops of the side attics, while the central one bears a sculpture of the “The Mower”, which symbolizes agriculture.
The building of merchant
Vicentije Z. Nedeljkovic
It is assumed that the house of the grain merchant Aleksa Popovich was the model according to which the house of the rich Golubac merchant Vicentije Z. Nedeljkovic was built in 1893. Another representative building of Golupac is located on the street regulation and was built as a building in a row. It was built according to the strict principles of academicism, with rich architectural and decorative plastic on the street facade, which is symmetrically resolved. The artistry of the street facade is characterized by rich neo-baroque decorative plastic.
Architecture of the building
Of particular note is the rich decoration around the windows in the form of balusters, capitals, consoles, tympanums and lunettes decorated with masks and elements with geometric, floral and zoomorphic motifs. The entire facade is surmounted by a centrally placed attic, on which the year of construction of the house is inscribed.
Church in Golubac
Church of Saint Nicholas
Around 1840, the Church of Saint Nicholas in Golubac was built on the site of an older log church from the 18th century. During the eighties of the 20th century, it underwent changes, with the extension of the narthex with the bell tower, and it was declared a cultural monument in 1983. The painting and icons on the altar partition are recent. The Church of St. Nicholas in Golupac has valuable examples of icons, liturgical books and vessels, as well as pieces of church furniture.
Church in Branichevo
Church of the Holy Prophet Jeremiah
The Church of the Holy Prophet Jeremiah in Branichevo was built in the period from 1874 to 1876 in the center of the village. It was built in the spirit of classicism with the use of baroque and romantic elements. Fourteen icons on the lower iconostasis partition made in the classicist spirit were painted by Dimitrije Posnikovic in 1877, as evidenced by the preserved inscription on the inside of the iconostasis partition. Of the individual icons, two icons from 1838, the work of the Belocrka painter Arsenije Jakshic, stand out.
